Northern Arizona Delights

Scottsdale Might Be in the Desert, But There is Much More to Arizona than Desert!

Take a trip up north with us to discover some awesome Arizona adventures

It’s rare to find a boutique hotel encompassed by luxury, comfort and a plethora of things to do. The surrounding area of Scottsdale Suites on Shea is buzzing with adventure, glamour, funky bars, beautiful hikes, prime people watching (because we all enjoy people watching!), and some of the best shopping you can find in the state of Arizona. But what if you want to get away and explore more of what Arizona has to offer? Somewhere where the pace is slower, the air is fresher, and the wine is straight from the cellar…

In less than two hours in the car, straight north of Scottsdale Suites on Shea you will find yourself in Cottonwood, Arizona. A quaint city of 12,000 people chock-full of wineries and wine tasting rooms, historic buildings, fishing and hiking, local restaurants, western themed cowboy shows, live music, and an adorable Old Town to explore and play in.

Load up the car in the morning, swing by Harry’s Hideaway in Cornville for a quick bite (you won’t be disappointed!). Literally, everything on the menu is delicious, made from scratch, and changing monthly to keep up with Harry’s chefs as they use their food to tell you a story.

Next stop, Page Spring Cellars for a tasting, local art, maybe a massage, a little yoga, and some live music (check their website for schedules and reservations)! Peruse the art gallery at Page Springs while you sip on a flight for only $11 which includes 5 tastes and a souvenir glass. While you’re there, get your fitness on with some creekside yoga or a relaxing massage as the water ripples by and the breeze blows gently on your skin.

Hit the road to Cottonwood, just 10 minutes further away. The best way to really indulge in Cottonwood is to take it all in…

Blazing M Ranch a true western experience with a saloon, mouthwatering cowboy food and entertainment – poetry, music, Ghost Rider (Google it!), tractor rides around the ranch, roping, pitching horseshoes, or target shooting. If you want to truly feel like a cowboy while you’re visiting Arizona, this is the place to do it!

Dead Horse Ranch State Park for the naturist looking to escape technology and the hustle and bustle of daily life. Relax with a swim in the lake, catch some fish, or hike some trails. Enjoy the mountain views and serenity of this beautiful state park!

Tuzigoot National Monument (Tuzigoot, that’s a fun word to say!) is the perfect place to immerse yourself in this ancient hilltop pueblo history. Imagine life as a member of the Sinagua who built this pueblo or one of the ranchers who grazed cattle in the marsh below. Spend some time wandering the visitor’s center to truly absorb Tuzigoot history!

Oldtown Cottonwood is an old-fashioned shopping district lined with charming, historic art galleries, shops, sample rooms, and cafes. Your entire day could be spent tasting wine from local vineyards, playing board games, browsing the galleries and shops, and enjoying some of the local restaurants. Be sure to grab some guacamole from Bocce – and don’t let the fact that it is an Italian restaurant sway you!

Cottonwood may be just a blip on the map, a place you may have never even heard of but the peaceful charm, pleasurable people, and unique experiences make it worth the trip from the Scottsdale Suites on Shea. Be sure to check back as we’ll be taking a day trip to Jerome next!
